Lovex kicked off their second club tour through Germany an Monday, 5th in Hamburg, where Niina and I got the chance to talk a little bit to Theon and Julian about the previous tour and other things.
Due to bad organisation we had to break up early and couldn't ask all of our questions.
Anyways, enjoy one of our shortest interviews ever. Cat
finnbands: So this is your first gig of the second tour in Germany.. Theon: Yes and the first time in Hamburg. finnbands: And when you recover your last tour: do you have any good or bad memories? Theon: Very good memories... Julian: Yeah! Theon: Great gigs and great fans, great people, beautiful towns, beautiful cities, great people all over the place .. Julian: Yeah! Theon: Cheap Jägermeister! *everybody laughs* A lot of beautiful girls. finnbands: And what are your expectations for this tour? Julian: MORE Jägermeister.. more beautiful girls! Well maybe.. Theon: Well hopefully we can play good gigs as we did last time.
finnbands: As you said you play the first time at Hamburg and I think you'll leave tomororrow .. Theon: Ja. finnbands: But do you plan to do some sightseeing? Go to Reeperbahn maybe? Theon: What? finnbands: Go to Reeperbahn maybe? Theon: We discussed about it .. it will be interesting to at least see it but I'm not sure, I'm pretty tired because of the travelling and I'm not sure when we get to leave here so if we have enough time we'll probably visit as many places as possible. Julian: No big idea so far *smiles*
finnbands: Your album Divine Insanity was released in Germany in 2007, but in Finland already in 2006. It's time for something new. Are you working already on your stuff? Theon: Ja, we already recorded 5 songs and we'll do the rest of the songs in January. finnbands: So we can expect the new CD soon next year? Theon: Ja, at least in Finland the new single will come out after the year changes.
finnbands: Your single Bullet for the pain is out as a downloadsingle since last Friday. Why did you decide a downloadsingle and not a "real" single? Theon: Actually we didn't decide it *everybody laughs* It was the record companies idea. I'm not sure what their point in that was, but ... Julian: We hope they know what they do.. Theon: We only play music *smiles* finnbands: Do you think there's still a market for singles? Theon: Well, hopefully but more and more people are downloading free copies and don't pay for the real music. I'm not sure, but we'll have to see about it, don't know.
finnbands: What do you think about downloading music in general? The legal way and the illegal way. Theon: Well, I'm not really a fan of downloading music for free or paid. We all like to have a CD in our hands and stuff like that. But of course downloading free music is always very very bad and it sucks a big time. If you really like a band I think you should buy the CD.
finnbands: Last week you played on a ship and I think it's more and more comming in Finland that there are concerts on ships. Theon: Well I'm not sure, they have always been big places to party but maybe more and more bands have been playing on ships. finnbands: And how was this cruise for you? Theon: Well.... Julian: Well *smiles* .. well... we had a great gig back there.. Theon: Yeah a great gig, and I think me and Julian can remember most of the cruise, but some of the other guys probably don't .. They remember stepping into the ship and waking up back in Finland the next day *smiles*... finnbands: Was anybody of you seasick? Theon: I had a little bit of stomarch ache but I think it had more to do with the food I ate earlier. *looks to Julian* some other headaches .. *lauhgs* but I don't think it had anything to do with the sailing.. finnbands: So you have been drunk enough to balance the swell? *everybody laughs* Theon: Yes.. *smiles* finnbands: Would you like to do this kind of gig again? Theon: Well not in a while I think .. not too often. Julian: That are pretty rough gigs I think *smiles*
finnbands: Something different: Nowadays I think people recognize you when you're walking along the streets. Do you sometimes wish your old life back? Theon: Well, not really. I don't think that many people know us yet and if they know us they usually just let us be. Julian: No problem with the fans so far.. Theon: Yeah, but if someone wants to my autograph or take a picture it's always a compliment so I don't really mind at all.
finnbands: What was the most unusual moment when you wrote a song? Theon: Probably the last time we were in Germany on a bar on tour. One night we drank quite much and thought we can do the worst 80ies rocksong ever. This joke we actually recorded a few weeks ago and made it a whole song. So that's probably the weirdest. It started out as a joke and turned out to be a whole song. finnbands: And how do you write your songs usually? Theon: Well almost everyone at our band writes music so but mostly someone has a base for the song and then I make the vocal melodies and lyrics ... Julian: Some songs we have been jamming in our rehearshal room and some songs are pretty ready when they come to the rehearshal room so it depends
*Marko comes to us and we only got the time for one more question* :(
finnbands: It's not too long until Christmas, how do you prepare and how do you celebrate Christmas? Theon: Well I'm gonna close my phone and being with my family. Julian: It's pretty much the same ...
