Interview with Flinch

Flinch played at Nosturi Helsinki just a few days after their latest single release "Taivas tähtiverhoineen". So I took my chance to ask them about the new formed band and what is going on with them recently.
All things said by Ville are translated by Oskari, so it's not what Ville said originally.

finnbands: In May 2007 was the news: "Ville left Flinch". Now Ville is in Flinch again but the other members are new. Why did you decide to call this new formed band Flinch again?
Oskari: Because Flinch is Villeīs band. He has the right for the name and he wants to continue with the band called Flinch. He thinks Flinch is his band...that's it.

finnbands: The "new" Flinch was found in 2007 but there is no official biography so far. Can you tell us a little about the newly formed band?
Oskari: Well, we started the last year ago. Me and Ville had this dream to put the band together, to play together. We had a lot discussions and...he decide to put the band together again. Jaakko was the new guy and then Haiwe...it was quiet easy you know, because we are all friends and haven't played together before Flinch, but...
Haiwe:I was the only one who didn't know anyone.

finnbands:Can you tell a little bit more about you as persons?
Oskari: Ville said he is a bit shy and it's quiet difficult to tell about.
finnbands: You can describe the others, it's maybe easier.
Oskari: Yeah, maybe. I think Ville is a bit a restless heart and sensitive and a good friend...one of the best! Tommi is a friend of mine for years ago...I love this guy. I was the one who made the call to Tommi and asked him, if he likes to join us.
Tommi: *still behind the cam* Yeah, thanks for your call!

finnbands: Your single "Taivas tähtiverhoineen" was released on January 16th. What about the album?
Oskari: Ehm yeah, actually the album is ready now. And...what ever you want to tellIt has ten songs. Quite whole of the album is about love with...and loose and it contains many sad songs, but in a way it's also more rock then the first album.

finnbands: What was the funniest thing going on in your time in studio right now?
Oskari: Ehm, one of the funniest things was when Ville had...we had like two days left studiotime and we have to hurry up, you know and Ville decided to go to Sweden. He just left with a friend for two days "yeah...let's go! Let's go" He was in Stockholm and we were in the studio and were wondering where he is. I think that was quite funny and then he came with a Sweden T-Shirt "HI, greatings from Sweden!"

finnbands: And what was the most exhausting?
Oskari: I think the morning wake ups. It started like ten o'clock in the morning every day...and that's not a time to make rock'n'roll music. We don't wake up that early.

finnbands: Tonight's concert is a charity: "Rock against child pornography". Do you think a concert with this topic will make this problem more aware in people's minds?
Haiwe:Hope so!
Oskari: *translated again for Ville* When we are playing here we want to do our best.
finnbands:Is there any difference to you playing a charity concert or playing a "normal" concert?
Oskari: Off course itīs a bit different, but I think every show and every gig should be like the last.

finnbands: The next question, is a question for Ville! All three Liimatainen brothers are in music business. So what is your musical family background that all of you decided to go this way?
VilleHis father is a drummer and they have a guitarist in the family also... and a singer...he thinks itīs genetic.

finnbands: Flinch became known in Germany in about 2006 as "the band of Jonne's little brother".
Oskari: Okay.
finnbands: What do you think about becoming known because of brother ship and not about the own music?
Oskari: Hmm...*translated again* He doesn't mind if people know us through Jonne. The most important thing is that the people like our music and our things and stuff like that. I think sometimes it's not so good, but... I think in some days they will know Jonne as a brother of Ville. He thinks it's a good thing and it doesn't matter and it's not a bad thing at all.

finnbands: 2008 isn't too old yet. Did you do any resolutions for the new year?
Oskari: Iīm just hoping that the new year will be better then the last. As a band...Did you mean plans for the band?
finnbands: Yes, or things like stop smoking or what you do, if you are drunk on new years eve...
Oskari: More smoking and more drinking....no... I don't make promises like that.
finnbands: Okay, I'm done with my questions! Thanks!
