Chatinterview with Kaide of Blinded Rain

finnbands: With "Vampire" you already released a 5 track EP, "Destination Unknown" will be your full length debut. What do we have to expect from this album?
Kaide: Well, the sound of the album is bigger than we ever have had. You will find dark tempting tunes with heavy rocking riffs - the music is still a combination of the hard rock and metal elements but also a bit heavier than earlier.

finnbands: What is the meaning of the titel? It sounds on the one hand desperate. On the other hand it's sanguine - depening on the point of view.
Is this just a Finnish winter mood or is there something special behind? What's your point of view?
Kaide: What comes to the title and also to lyrics I would like to leave as much space as possible for the imagination of listener... Destination Unknown felt like a good name for the album because we feel we are beginning a ....new journey in a way

finnbands: If you should rate your new album compared to other releases in 2008 on a scale from 1 (bad) to 10 (best), where would you put it and why?
Kaide: haaah - what a question, oh my god ! What else I can say - 10 !
finnbands: ok, which other albums from 2008 have you listened to so far?
Kaide: I have not listened a lot of music lately, mostly because the recordings took so much time and there is "danger" if you listen to something else at the same time, it might pop up to your own music
finnbands: To avoid other influences you don't want in your own music?
Kaide: To avoid "copying", mind may pick up things and you notice later that voooww, the great idea but not mine.
finnbands: But don't you think that there might already be some inflences or "copying" as you call it in your tunes? I think this might happen to a lot of bands. I don't want to say you sound copied, so don't get me wrong
Kaide: yeeah - I understand what you mean. Of course the music you like may and will affect the music you make. I listen to many kind of bands everything from Thin Lizzy or U2 to Nightwish or to Children of Bodom
finnbands: ok I will listen to your album carefully and try to find pieces of them, no I am kidding
Kaide: heh, feels like making a puzzle
finnbands: would become funny, ok, next topic

finnbands: Blinded Rain was found since some new written songs didn't fit to already existing bands you played in.
Why are always new bands found (sometimes with the same line up as in other bands) to play music in another style under another name and not styles in one band mixed up?
Kaide: Well in my case there was so huge musical difference . There was a time I was playing for living in cover rock bands and I felt like I had seen enough of that road.
finnbands: and the other guys wanted to continue in covers, so you found a new band?
Kaide: yes, more or less like that and there was nothing dramatic in that thing

finnbands: Your bass player is called Günther, which is a typical German name. Is he German?
Kaide: well that is one of the miracles of life ! He is Finnish and I still wonder that name he is called.
finnbands: How do you write it on a Finnish keyboard?
Kaide: the same way, at least I do
Kaide: ....and it is his artist name
finnbands: I will search the ü next time in Finland, never found it so far.
finnbands: ah ok, than it's not so unusual at all!
Kaide: true, but still makes me wonder how he "has" that name, he is also playing in Gregor Harmaa band and got that name already before Blinded Rain time.
finnbands: So just changing the bands but keeping the artist name, am I allowed to ask for his real name? I am just curious.
Kaide: Well he has said that he is just Günther.
finnbands: ok

finnbands: What is so special in the music Blinded Rain is doing today and in what are you differing to other bands?
Kaide: I believe that when you hear our new album you may notice that nothing sounds exactly the same. The elements we are using may be familiar but the package sounds "Blinded Rain" and you will find the both shades; the old school and more modern metal tunes together.

finnbands: Are there any cooperations on this album maybe with some friends of you from Finnish music scene?
Kaide: yes - Kaisa Saari (Tarujen Saari) is doing all the female vocals

finnbands: And is there any other musician on earth you would still like to cooperate with?
Kaide: Many but the closest from Finland would be Tuomas Holopainen, I really appreciate what he is doing.
finnbands: Have you ever asked him?
Kaide: And if go a little bit far away - Ian Gillan
Kaide: ...asked Holopainen, no I havenīt.

finnbands: What are your musical goals? Or have you already reached them?
Kaide: Music is a lifetime journey and I hope to maintain the joy in making music and that is the main thing.
finnbands: So the sense in being musician is the life for the music no matter about sucess or record selling and stuff like that?
Kaide: Of course it will feel great if the forthcoming album is selling good but the music is more important.

finnbands: What do you think is the biggest prejudice about musicians? And concerned to your own experiences, are these prejudices rather true or false?
Kaide: Sometimes it feels that people think that every musician is boozing like crazy all the time - I have met some guys who are sometimes even sauber.

finnbands: Just sometimes? or always?
Kaide: heh ! You may also find some totally sauber ones
finnbands: Yes, I know! But this is about prejudices.

finnbands: When we are at this drinking topic: some musicians say: how else to spend time between soundcheck and gig as getting hammered. What do you do in this time of waiting?
Kaide: Talk a lot of bull shit with guys - our intelligence declines at least by 90% when we meet.

finnbands: And last question: are you going to play at some summer festivals this year? Or are you going to visit some? Which would you recomment?
Kaide: We are playing at Heinolan Valot Festival on the 7th of June in Heinola, come there !
finnbands: And maybe some more festivals to come? Or are the bookings done now for this year?
Kaide: If you mean bookings in general - I suppose not all the festivals have booked everything ready yet.
finnbands: Ok, so there might be some hope left to see you on some more stages? I wish you luck that that will happen!
Kaide: Hopefully !

finnbands: Is there anything important I forgot to ask and you want to let your fans know?
Kaide: If you wanna hear some album tracks in advance they are available in FMR Radio (France) Nocturnal Tears metal show on Wednesdays 2,9,16,23.4 at 23.00-01.00 finish time , station is also streaming in internet so everybody has the possibility to listen.
finnbands: And the album will be out on 23.4. as well, won't it?
Kaide: Yes.

finnbands: Thank you for taking some time and doing this interview with me!
Kaide: Thank you.
