Jacob's Illusion are literally newcomer. Founded in autumn 2007 they already released their first promotional CD "Through the Silence" almost half a year later.
The band itself describes their music as contemporary "Sing-Along-Rock" that's characterised by melodic and catchy tunes.
Well, two tracks are not many to create a detailed picture about the musically skills of those Finns. But it's enough for a first impression and that seems to be quite positive.
You can not deny the potential that this band from Helsinki brings along and even the mandatory part of Finnish melancholy is not missing, though it is added rather profound and regulated than it is the case in the music of some of their colleagues.
The first title "On My Feet" stands out by its energetic instrumentation, where first and foremost the guitar parts are worth to be mentioned. Also the promised captivation by catchy melodies is more than obvious and even lyrically the band don't needs to hide behind someone else.
With the song "Tight Rope" it is getting more quiet. Long time I have thought about possible similarities while listening to the voice of vocalist Tipi in this track and finally got to the point that an analogy with The Smashing Pumpkins is inescapeable. The song surprisingly comes up with a guitar solo in its second half, which makes it more interesting than primary considered and offers a welcome diversification for the listener as well.
Unfortunately a choice of only two tracks is not enough to convey the complete range of a band but it seems that Jacob's Illusion have found the right way for themselves.
In the end it remains to be seen if those guys have the necessary individuality to stand out from the wide masses of Finnish bands. But the musically intuition as well as the needed talent and the technical skills are existing without a doubt.
One can only wish those five musicians all the best for their search of a record deal, so that they get the chance to prove their abilities and to show that there is much more than this promotional CD might reflect!
